On August 22, 2023, Takeda Pharmaceutical announced that cabozantinib (Cabometyx) plus atezolizumab (Tecentriq) improved progression-free survival (PFS) in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer patients.
This announcement is based on interim analysis results from the CONTACT-02 international Phase 3 clinical trial. The CONTACT-02 trial enrolled patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer who had previously received hormone therapy as first-line treatment. Patients received Cabometyx plus Tecentriq as second-line therapy compared to hormone therapy. Primary endpoints were overall survival (OS) and PFS.
While OS showed an improvement trend in this interim analysis, the data are not yet mature. The study will continue to the next OS analysis.
Safety:
Adverse events for Cabometyx and Tecentriq individually were consistent with the known safety profiles of each agent as monotherapy. No new safety signals were identified with the combination.
