As perioperative adjuvant chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer, mFOLFIRINOX improves disease-free survival better than gemcitabine in patients with resectable disease.

On December 20, 2018, the medical journal The New England Journal of Medicine published results from a Phase III clinical trial comparing the efficacy of mFOLFIRINOX combination therapy and gemcitabine in postoperative pancreatic cancer patients.

Adverse events associated with mFOLFIRINOX included diarrhea, sensory disturbance, fatigue, peripheral neuropathy, and vomiting. Gemcitabine was associated with thrombocytopenia. However, based on the statistical results, Dr. Thierry Conroy concluded that mFOLFIRINOX combination therapy improves survival rates in pancreatic cancer patients.
