On March 27, 2023, Ono Pharmaceutical and Bristol-Myers Squibb jointly announced that they received approval for the additional indication of anti-PD-1 antibody for non-small cell lung cancer in combination with chemotherapy as neoadjuvant therapy.
This approval was based on the CheckMate-816 Phase III clinical trial, which enrolled patients with resectable stage I-IIIA non-small cell lung cancer. Patients were randomized into an anti-PD-1 antibody 300 mg + chemotherapy group and a chemotherapy group, both as neoadjuvant therapy. The endpoints included event-free survival, pathological complete response rate, and safety.
The trial results showed that the anti-PD-1 antibody + chemotherapy group demonstrated significant improvement in both event-free survival and pathological complete response rate compared with the chemotherapy group, and the adverse event profile was consistent with previous clinical trials.
anti-PD-1 antibody will serve as a new neoadjuvant therapy for non-small cell lung cancer patients, administered at 360 mg per dose in three-week treatment cycles for up to three cycles in combination with chemotherapy.
