Prostate Cancer Clinical Trial: ARN-509
- March 1, 2015
- 2 min read
A Phase III clinical trial is underway using ARN-509, a second-generation anti-androgen agent, for patients with previously untreated prostate cancer. This study specifically targets high-risk patients with non-metastatic prostate cancer who have a rapidly increasing PSA level (PSA doubling time of 10 months or less). The trial evaluates the efficacy and safety of the drug compared to a placebo.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Patients aged 18 years or older.
- Confirmed diagnosis of prostate cancer.
- High risk of metastasis (PSA doubling time ≤ 10 months).
- PSA levels continuing to rise (> 2 ng/mL) despite androgen deprivation therapy (ADT).

Drug Description: Androgen Receptor Antagonist ARN-509
A small molecule and androgen receptor (AR) antagonist with potential antineoplastic activity. ARN-509 binds to AR in target tissues, thereby preventing androgen-induced receptor activation and facilitating the formation of inactive complexes that cannot be translocated to the nucleus. This prevents binding to and transcription of AR-responsive genes. Ultimately, this inhibits the expression of genes that regulate prostate cancer cell proliferation and may lead to an inhibition of cell growth in AR-expressing tumor cells.
Trial Period: March 1, 2015 – December 31, 2016
