From May 29-31, 2020, Martin Reck presented at the ASCO 2020 Virtual Meeting the three-year follow-up efficacy and safety results of anti-PD-1 antibody anti-PD-1 antibody + anti-CTLA-4 antibody anti-CTLA-4 antibody + chemotherapy as first-line treatment for metastatic non-small cell lung cancer patients in the CheckMate-9LA Phase III clinical trial.
The CheckMate-9LA Phase III clinical trial was a multicenter, open-label study that randomized metastatic non-small cell lung cancer patients in a 1:1 ratio into the following two groups. The primary endpoint was overall survival, and secondary endpoints included progression-free survival and objective response rate:
-
anti-PD-1 antibody + anti-CTLA-4 antibody + chemotherapy group (anti-PD-1 antibody 360 mg every three weeks + anti-CTLA-4 antibody 1 mg/kg every six weeks + chemotherapy for up to two cycles).
-
Chemotherapy group (up to four cycles).
At the interim analysis with a median follow-up of 8.1 months, the primary endpoint overall survival showed improvement in the anti-PD-1 antibody + anti-CTLA-4 antibody + chemotherapy group compared with the chemotherapy group. At a median follow-up of 12.7 months, the median overall survival was 15.6 months for the anti-PD-1 antibody + anti-CTLA-4 antibody + chemotherapy group / 10.9 months for the chemotherapy group, demonstrating improvement.
Regarding safety, the adverse events in the anti-PD-1 antibody + anti-CTLA-4 antibody + chemotherapy group were consistent with the known safety profile from existing clinical trials, and no new adverse events were identified in this trial.
Based on the CheckMate-9LA trial results, Martin Reck concluded that using anti-PD-1 antibody anti-PD-1 antibody + anti-CTLA-4 antibody anti-CTLA-4 antibody plus chemotherapy as first-line treatment for metastatic non-small cell lung cancer patients confirmed improvement in overall survival.
