On April 16, 2023, Roche announced the latest research data from the IMbrave050 Phase III clinical trial evaluating Tecentriq + Avastin for hepatocellular carcinoma patients at high risk of recurrence after curative surgery or radiofrequency ablation.

The IMbrave050 Phase III clinical trial divided hepatocellular carcinoma patients at high risk of recurrence after curative surgery or radiofrequency ablation (N=668) into the Tecentriq (1,200 mg) + Avastin (15 mg/kg) group (once every three weeks, for up to 1 year or 17 treatment cycles) and the active surveillance group. The primary endpoint was recurrence-free survival, with secondary endpoints including overall survival and recurrence-free survival in PD-L1-positive patients.

At a median follow-up of 17.4 months, the primary endpoint recurrence-free survival showed a 28% reduction in recurrence risk for the Tecentriq + Avastin group compared to the active surveillance group. The secondary endpoint overall survival had not yet been reached.

Regarding safety, the adverse event profile of Tecentriq + Avastin was consistent with the safety profiles observed in other clinical trials.

Based on the IMbrave050 trial results, Levi Garraway, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Global Product Development at Roche, stated that Tecentriq + Avastin is already the standard treatment for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma, and this trial shows the potential for extending its use to other hepatocellular carcinoma patients. Complete data are anticipated in the future.
