On October 28, 2019, AstraZeneca announced: "Efficacy and safety results of anti-PD-L1 antibody Imfinzi (durvalumab) + anti-CTLA-4 antibody Tremelimumab + chemotherapy as first-line treatment in treatment-naive non-small cell lung cancer patients in POSEIDON Phase 3 clinical trial."

The POSEIDON Phase 3 clinical trial was a randomized trial conducted by international facilities dividing treatment-naive non-small cell lung cancer patients into three groups. Primary endpoints evaluated progression-free survival and overall survival for Imfinzi + chemotherapy group, with secondary endpoints evaluating Imfinzi + Tremelimumab + chemotherapy group progression-free survival and overall survival.

Primary endpoint results showed Imfinzi + chemotherapy group's progression-free survival had significant improvement compared to chemotherapy group, demonstrating clinical significance. Secondary endpoint results showed Imfinzi + Tremelimumab + chemotherapy group's progression-free survival had significant improvement compared to chemotherapy group, demonstrating clinical significance.

Regarding safety, adverse events in Imfinzi + chemotherapy group and Imfinzi + Tremelimumab + chemotherapy group were consistent with data from other current clinical trials, with no new adverse events occurring. Treatment discontinuation rates in both groups were similar to previous clinical trials.

Based on POSEIDON clinical trial results, José Baselga concluded: Treatment-naive non-small cell lung cancer patients treated with anti-PD-L1 antibody Imfinzi + anti-CTLA-4 antibody Tremelimumab + chemotherapy or Imfinzi + chemotherapy as first-line therapy both showed improved progression-free survival.

Primary and secondary endpoints (overall survival) results are expected to be released in 2020.
