On May 26, 2023, AstraZeneca announced significant results from the Phase 3 DUO-E clinical trial evaluating patients with advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer.
Study Design: The DUO-E trial evaluated patients receiving Imfinzi (durvalumab) in combination with platinum-based chemotherapy or chemotherapy alone as first-line treatment. Following the initial phase, patients received maintenance therapy with either Imfinzi plus Lynparza (olaparib) or Imfinzi monotherapy.
Clinical Outcomes: The results demonstrated that both maintenance regimens were superior to standard chemotherapy, resulting in a significant prolongation of progression-free survival (PFS). The combination of Imfinzi and Lynparza was particularly noted for providing substantial clinical benefit. While overall survival (OS) data is still maturing, a positive trend toward improved OS was observed in both treatment arms.
Safety Profile: The safety and tolerability profile was consistent with the known side effects of each individual agent observed in previous clinical evaluations. Detailed findings from the trial are expected to be presented at an upcoming medical congress.
