(Cancer Treatment) Immunotherapy

"Using immunotherapy to treat patients, watching them recover from critical condition to health—nothing makes me happier," said Tasuku Honjo, special professor at Kyoto University's Institute for Advanced Study.
Cancer, claiming millions of lives over nearly half a century, becomes treatable disease under immunotherapy rather than terminal disease; cancer no longer equals death. Future cancer will become chronic disease like diabetes and heart disease.
Traditional cancer treatment—surgery, chemotherapy, radiation—removes tumor cells externally. Immunotherapy uses the body's innate immune system attacking tumor cells. This major cancer treatment breakthrough extends and even cures many previously untreatable cancer patients.
What is Immunity?
Immunity means the physiological system identifying self substances (self cells) versus foreign substances (non-self foreign matter), eliminating foreign matter. Cancer is healthy cell's uncontrolled growth from DNA damage producing malignant substances. The immune system recognizes cancerous cells as foreign.
Immune cells clearing cancer include natural (NK) cells, natural killer (NKT) cells, killer T cells (cytotoxic cells, also CTL). The most evolved is killer T cells. T cells differ from other immune cells in learning ability. Killer T cells' learning ability marks cancer cells, producing "cancer antigen" response, inducing powerful anti-cancer action.
What is Immunotherapy?
"Cancer immunotherapy" strengthens immune response treating cancer. Immune-related cells besides NK, NKT, killer T cells include macrophages, helper cells, B cells. Any method activating these cells achieving treatment goals qualifies as "cancer immunotherapy." Divides into antigen-nonspecific and specific cancer immunotherapy. Cancer peptide vaccine therapy increasing killer T cells (activating them) preventing cancer recurrence or proliferation is specific immunotherapy.
Currently, two immunotherapy classes exist: cellular immunotherapy (immune cell therapy) and molecular immunotherapy (immune drug therapy). Japan's cellular immunotherapy implementation experience and medical technology level are high, becoming patients' main choices.
Immune Cell Therapy?
Broadly divides into two types: nonspecific immune cell therapy activating immune cells without cancer cell characteristics recognition, and specific immune cell therapy allowing immune cells recognizing cancer cells. Both involve NK, DC, T cells, or B cells.
Recent research showed αβT cells and γδT cells can be separated. Blood T lymphocytes are mostly αβT cells, containing several percent γδ receptor-proven. Previously, T cells couldn't transmit antigen information lacking cancer-cell attack ability, but γδT cells without dendritic cell instruction attack tumors like NK cells, verified. Increasingly many institutions practice this therapy.
Electrical Field Therapy (ECCT): Japan's Cancer Supportive Treatment
Electrical field therapy fundamentally doesn't affect normal cells because tumor cells' electrical properties (conductivity, capacitance) differ from normal cells. Tumor cells have relatively higher electrical properties, therefore more sensitive to external electrical fields. Electrical field therapy side effects are minimal compared to chemotherapy, with no major reported adverse events.
Electrical field therapy duration requires physician judgment through follow-up observation determining continued use.
Recommend sufficient albumin, vitamin C, flavonoids, olive oil intake, helping immune system function normally.
Electrical field therapy technology was developed by Professor Warsito P. Taruno and Edward Technology Company CTech Laboratory team (IDN Patent No. REGP00201200092, 2012).
