On May 4, 2021, Professor Hiroshi Ueda and colleagues from Gifu University's United Graduate School of Drug Development and Medical Information Research published a novel RAS inhibitor developed using cell-permeable peptide proteins in Cell Chemical Biology.
Because approximately 30% of malignant tumors have RAS protein mutations and activation, causing cancer cell proliferation and metastasis, inhibiting RAS could control cancer progression. Professor Hiroshi Ueda's team discovered cell-permeable peptide proteins that can penetrate cell membranes in the RAS binding domain, enhancing inhibition of RAS protein mutations. Currently, sotorasib targets KRAS G12C mutations. Beyond inhibiting G12C mutations, it has been confirmed to also inhibit RAS mutations such as G12V and G12D.
Future development will use sotorasib as a primary component, with various improvements to develop it as an innovative anti-cancer drug.
