Home to HIMAC, the world's first dedicated medical heavy-ion facility, with a main accelerator approximately 40 m in diameter and 130 m in circumference, and over 27 years of heavy-ion radiation therapy experience. By March 2019, it had delivered 15,024 treatments. The 2010 HIMAC expansion introduced respiratory gating, 3D pencil-beam scanning, and rotational gantry irradiation. With 100 inpatient beds and 28 specialists, it is one of Japan's representative heavy-ion therapy centers.
