From May 29 to 31, 2020, Andres Poveda presented at the ASCO 2020 Virtual Scientific Program the "Final Efficacy and Safety Analysis Results of PARP Inhibitor Lynparza (olaparib) Monotherapy as Maintenance Therapy in gBRCA Mutation-Positive, Platinum-Sensitive Recurrent Ovarian Cancer Patients in the SOLO2 Phase III Clinical Trial."
The SOLO2 clinical trial randomly assigned gBRCA mutation-positive, platinum-sensitive recurrent ovarian cancer patients to two groups, with progression-free survival as the primary endpoint and overall survival as the secondary endpoint:
- Lynparza group (300mg twice daily, N=196)
- Placebo group (N=99)
At a median follow-up of 65 months, the median overall survival was 51.7 months for the Lynparza group vs. 38.8 months for the placebo group. The safety profile was consistent with adverse events observed in other previous clinical trials, and no new adverse events were confirmed in this trial.
Based on the SOLO2 trial results, Andres Poveda concluded: "PARP inhibitor Lynparza monotherapy as maintenance therapy in gBRCA mutation-positive, platinum-sensitive recurrent ovarian cancer patients improved overall survival in the long term, extending it by at least one year compared to the placebo group."
