(Gastric Cancer) Opdivo Monotherapy: Median Overall Survival of 8.3 Months

On May 13, 2019, the journal Gastric Cancer published efficacy and safety results from a Phase III clinical trial and subgroup analysis of Opdivo (nivolumab) monotherapy in multiply pretreated gastric/gastroesophageal junction cancer patients.

The subgroup analysis was conducted because clinical evidence for immune checkpoint inhibitors in HER2-positive gastric/gastroesophageal junction cancer patients was insufficient. The analysis evaluated Opdivo monotherapy in gastric cancer patients with prior Herceptin (trastuzumab) treatment. Of the 493 trial participants, 81 had prior Herceptin treatment and 412 had no prior Herceptin treatment.

The analysis results showed that patients with prior Herceptin treatment who received Opdivo had a median overall survival of 8.3 months and a median progression-free survival of 1.6 months. Opdivo demonstrated good antitumor effects in patients with prior Herceptin treatment, and patient tolerability of adverse events was also acceptable.
