Human cells contain two critical types of genes: "oncogenes" that drive cell division and "tumor suppressor genes" that act as brakes. When suppressors are damaged by environment, stress, or genetics, cells proliferate uncontrollably, forming cancer. The Gankyrin RNAi Therapy at Tenjin Cancer Clinic aims to reshape this balance at the genetic level.
What is Gankyrin?
Gankyrin is a specific protein-coding gene frequently overexpressed in various malignancies. It acts as a "blocker," strongly inhibiting well-known tumor suppressors such as p53, p16, PTEN, and RB, rendering these guardians ineffective.
- p53 Gene: Known as the "Guardian of the Genome," responsible for inducing apoptosis in cancerous cells.
- p16 Gene: Prevents cancer by delaying abnormal cell proliferation.
How the Genetic Therapy Works
- RNA Suppression: Specific inhibitory RNA is administered via intravenous infusion to precisely target and neutralize the expression of the Gankyrin gene.
- Unleashing Suppressor Power: Once the interference from Gankyrin is removed, the previously suppressed p53 and p16 genes regain their activity.
- Inducing Apoptosis: The restored tumor suppressors trigger cell death mechanisms, causing cancer cells to self-destruct while inhibiting infiltration and metastasis.
Treatment Features and Cycle
- Precision Medicine: Unlike traditional surgery or high-side-effect chemotherapy, gene therapy focuses on "precision correction" with minimal damage to healthy cells.
- Treatment Cycle: Patients typically visit the clinic every 1–2 weeks for an infusion.
- Synergy: This can be used alongside TRAIL gene therapy to further enhance tumor-killing effects.
