Yescarta CAR-T Therapy Indications Expanded for B-Cell Lymphoma

On December 23, 2022, Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. and Kite, a Gilead company, announced that the CD19-targeted CAR-T cell therapy Yescarta (Axicabtagene ciloleucel) has received approval in Japan for expanded indications. As of December 20, 2022, Yescarta is authorized for use in adult patients with certain types of relapsed or refractory large B-cell lymphoma.

Clinical Evidence: ZUMA-7 Trial

The approval was supported by the results of the international Phase 3 ZUMA-7 trial. This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of Yescarta as a second-line treatment compared to the previous standard of care (high-dose chemotherapy followed by autologous stem cell transplant) in patients with relapsed or refractory large B-cell lymphoma.

Expanded Indications

The newly approved indications for Yescarta in Japan include:

• Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL)
• Primary mediastinal large B-cell lymphoma (PMBCL)
• Transformed follicular lymphoma (TFL)
• High-grade B-cell lymphoma (HGBL)

By providing a potent second-line option, Yescarta aims to improve outcomes for patients who have traditionally had limited choices after their initial treatment fails.
