myopia

The proportion of Chinese people with myopia is increasing year by year. There are many friends who feel tired or uncomfortable with heavy glasses and want to get rid of glasses. Surgery is a way to improve. With the advancement of technology, the current laser myopia surgery is roughly divided into LASIK (Laser In Situ Lamellar Orthokeratology), PRK (Laser Refractive Keratectomy), SMILE (Minimally Invasive Femtosecond Myopia Laser) , Surgical methods have their own advantages and disadvantages.

It is to use excimer laser to perform refractive cutting on the stroma layer under the corneal flap, so as to reduce the corneal curvature in the pupil area and achieve the purpose of correcting myopia. lens). The surgical method needs to first use a lamellar knife to cut the cornea mechanically, and then apply laser correction. The recovery time after LASIK is shorter, and the patient feels less pain. Precautions

1. Customers who are currently wearing contact lenses, in order to restore the compressed cornea to its original shape, please stop wearing contact lenses before getting used to the examination and surgery. (including disposable contact lenses)
  • For soft contact lenses, please stop wearing contact lenses three days before the adaptation examination and surgery.
  • For hard contact lenses, please stop wearing contact lenses two weeks before the adaptation examination and operation.
For other soft contact lenses for astigmatism and dual-purpose contact lenses, stop wearing contact lenses a week ago. Customers who wear contact lenses for a long time, please stop wearing contact lenses one month ago. In addition, customers who wear orthokeratology contact lenses need to stop using them 3 months ago. If you wear other types of contact lenses, please let us know in advance.
2. Hereditary Keratopathy
Clients with hereditary keratopathy cannot undergo LASIK. When adapting to the inspection, genetic testing for hereditary keratopathy will be carried out, and it can be 100% detected whether there is hereditary keratopathy.

Risks of LASIK surgery

Laser myopia surgery has been developed for more than 20 years, and its advantages and disadvantages have been discussed in many research papers. In fact, no operation can be absolutely 100% safe and satisfactory. Therefore, patients must have a clear understanding of the operation, reasonable expectations, and a sense of risk-taking.

The most important premise is that not all myopic people can receive laser myopia surgery. In addition to being at least 18 years old, with stable myopia and no pregnancy, if you have keratoconus (referring to the thinning and protruding cornea of the eye and In severe cases, cornea transplantation is required), hidden keratoconus (check with corneal mapper, anterior chamber analyzer, etc.), dry eye, history of autoimmune and connective tissue diseases, severe dryness Syndrome, end-stage glaucoma, severe diabetes, etc., are not suitable for surgery. If there is a retinal hole or detachment, it needs to be treated first. The Japanese Academy of Ophthalmology proposed guidelines for surgery in 2008, recommending surgery within 6D. 6D~10D may be due to the high degree of myopia. Although such treatment can be provided, it is necessary to pay attention to whether the thickness of the cornea is sufficient. Implantable intraocular lenses are acceptable.

LASIK myopia laser surgery, which was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2016, uses lasers to change the curvature of the cornea to improve vision. Although myopia laser surgery in recent years focuses on painless and quick recovery, experts warn that LASIK laser surgery is still risky, and its sequelae include symptoms such as dry eye, light sensitivity, blurred vision, and various astigmatism. Usually these symptoms are short-lived, but there is the possibility of permanent damage such as blindness, pain and interference with daily life.
At the same time, laser surgery is not suitable for everyone. In the case of LASIK, those who have refitted glasses and contact lenses within a year, have a history of diabetes, and take drugs that will affect wound healing, or have glaucoma, herpes, etc. Eye diseases such as infection or eye inflammation, and people who have had eye injuries or surgery are not suitable. At the same time, people who are prone to dry eyes, large pupils, and thin corneas should also think twice.

After laser surgery, it is also possible to become short-sighted again. After corneal thinning, the cornea with the original concave lens may be affected due to the increase of intraocular pressure and the return of short-sightedness. This part can be performed LASIK again, but it will not be recommended if the cornea is too thin or in poor condition.

After Lasik surgery in the United StatescomplicationPatient voluntary organization, publicizing the risks of Lasik. They also build websites, some of the better known arewww.lifeafterLasik.comand Lasik Complications (www.Lasikcomplications.com), to provide medical and even legal help and guidance for those who have undergone Lasik surgery.

The Lasik Complications website lists not to be myopiclaserTop 10 reasons for surgery:

  1. The surgery can lead to dry eye, which is the most common complication of myopia laser surgery. The US FDA (Food and Drug Administration) website warns that dry eye syndrome caused by laser surgery may be permanent. About 20% of patients will experience "worse" or "significantly worse" dry eye symptoms after surgery.
  2. Laser surgery can compromise visual quality. Laser patients are less likely to see clearly in dim light, and there is an increase in night vision distortion. One report showed that six months after laser surgery, 17.5% of patients had halos, 19.7% had glare, 19.3% had night driving, and 21% had dry eye problems.
  3. The cornea does not fully heal after surgery, and the surgery can permanently weaken the cornea. The FDA website warns that people who play contact sports are not candidates for laser surgery.
  4. Laser surgery can compromise the accuracy of intraocular pressure measurements, exposing patients to the risk of vision loss from undiagnosed glaucoma.
  5. Surgery on both eyes on the same day puts patients at risk of simultaneous vision loss, and the FDA warns that surgery on both eyes at the same time is more risky than surgery on both eyes separately.
  6. Serious complications can occur after surgery. The LASIK flap creates a permanent entry in the cornea that can be penetrated by microorganisms, increasing the patient's risk of corneal infection that could endanger vision. Complications may appear weeks, months or years after what appears to be a fairly successful laser procedure.
  7. Laser surgery does not eliminate the need to wear glasses. Laser surgery does not allow patients to read without glasses after the age of 40. Studies have shown that the eyesight of patients after surgery will weaken over time, and eventually they may still have to wear glasses again. It is often only a matter of time.
  8. The true rate of complications from laser surgery is still unknown, and some complications are classified as dry eye and impaired night vision rather than as postoperative complications.
  9. Laser surgery is irreversible and treatment options for associated complications are limited.
  10. It should be known that laser surgery is only a selective treatment. There is no good reason for patients to risk loss of vision. For unnecessary surgery, glasses or contact lenses are still the safest alternatives.
